For this test we are using a stock LS-3 cylinder head with stock OEM valve, a stock LS-3 intake manifold and throttle body. All of the systems were flow-tested with the air meter in place in their respective locations. Flow measurement: We are using a Superflow 600 flow bench.

I have run Vortec heads on an older engine, and I have a non-stock intake that I intend to install on a Vortec engine in the future. I am very seriously considering making a spacer like in the picture which will allow me to use the stock Vortec thermostat and be machined for the same type of bypass circuit flow control.

Jun 04, 2014 · I could be wrong but I thought that 95 was the last year for the 5.7 NON Vortec engine and that when Vortec’s came out in 96 were all 5.3. I have a 95 with the 5.7 350, not a Vortec, my mechanic tells me that is a rock solid engine and I should be able to get 300,000 out of it with regular oil changes.
